36-Point Vedic Compatibility for Shubh Vivah
Guna Milan, also called Ashtakuta Milan, is the classical Vedic method of checking compatibility between two people for marriage. It analyses 8 aspects (Kutas) of both Janma Kundalis and assigns points — up to 36 in total.
Guna Milan helps families and couples understand areas of natural alignment — and areas where extra understanding and effort may be needed. A higher score generally indicates easier compatibility, but it is one part of a broader Kundli analysis, not a final verdict on a relationship.
Varna (1pt): Spiritual compatibility and values. Vashya (2pt): Mutual respect and understanding. Tara (3pt): Longevity and general wellbeing. Yoni (4pt): Temperament and emotional nature. Graha Maitri (5pt): Mental compatibility and friendship. Gana (6pt): Personality type — Deva, Manava, or Rakshasa. Bhakoot (7pt): Family and emotional harmony. Nadi (8pt): Genetic and health compatibility — the most critical Kuta.
0–17: Generally not recommended — significant mismatch in multiple areas. 18–24: Acceptable — specific Doshas should be reviewed with a Jyotishi. 25–31: Good match — recommended for most families. 32–36: Excellent — rare and considered very auspicious.
